Lecture: Canada-US Relations: Still Friends, Partners, and Allies?

Mar 7

7:00 PM - 9:00 PM
Sun Room, Memorial Union

Notwithstanding the signature of the USMCA, Canada-US relations are under stress as the Trump Administration pursues its ‘America First’ policies in trade, climate and security. President Trump wins no popularity contests in Canada and, in contrast to the relationship with the Obama Administration, the Trudeau Government relations with the Trump Administration are correct but cool. And while there are divisions at the federal level both Canada and the USA are federations with different levels of government. Between states and provinces and between cities and municipalities there is a lot of practical cooperation. Former Canadian diplomat Colin Robertson is now vice president and fellow at the Canadian Global Affairs Institute. Robertson will speak about the relationship beyond the Beltway and offer some perspectives on how it can continue to mutually benefit both nations. (Part of the World Affairs Series: the U.S. Role Abroad).
