GRS students attend Unpacked: Refugee Baggage exhibit and learn from refugees

On October 7th, GRS students attended a private opening of the “Unpacked: Refugee Baggage” exhibit in the Christian Petersen Art Museum on campus. The exhibit tells the stories of people forced to flee their homes, their culture, their families and how the United States became their new home, a place where they hoped to escape the constant fear associated with departing their home countries. After experiencing the exhibit, GRS welcomed four leaders in refugee communities in Des Moines for a panel discussion with GRS students. Catherine Swoboda, Lecturer in GRS, moderated the event.
