Iowa Food Leadership Reception Features GRS Students Barnes and Floss

Rachael Barnes and Caleb Floss represented GRS at the Iowa Food Leadership Reception on October 12th, 2016 in Des Moines, IA. The event was associated with the 2016 World Food Prize and designed to emphasize Iowa State University’s contributions to food and agriculture innovation. Speakers included Iowa Governor Terry Branstad, Lt. Governor Kim Reynolds, ISU President Steven Leath, and ISU College of Agriculture Dean Wendy Wintersteen.

Rachael and Caleb participated in the Uganda Service Learning Program and were the only undergraduate students selected to share summaries of their projects at the reception. Rachael is a senior in GRS and Biological Systems Engineering and presented, “Maintaining Nutrient Content of Maize Through Improved Grain Storage Practices at Primary Schools in Kamuli, Uganda. Caleb, a senior in GRS and Business, presented, “Irrigation to Enhance Water Resources in Primary Schools in Kamuli District, Uganda.”
