GLOBE LC: “Unpacked: Refugee Baggage”

Oct 7

3:30 PM - 5:30 PM
Christian Petersen Art Museum, 1017 Morrill Hall

Most recently shown at the World Bank and now at Iowa State, “Unpacked: Refugee Baggage” tells the story of different refugees through miniaturized recreations of a moment in time or memory recollected and accompanied by an audio component with their story told in their own words.

The GLOBE Learning Community is hosting an event on Sunday, October 7th from 3:30PM – 5:30PM for GRS students to experience the exhibit at the Christian Petersen Art Museum housed in 1017 Morrill Hall on campus.  The exhibit will be open especially for GRS students and our guests – 3 refugees from Des Moines and Ms. Moriah Morgan from EMBARC.  From 3:30PM – 4:30PM, GRS students can walk through the exhibit and from 4:30PM – 5:30PM there will be a panel discussion with our 3 refugee guests and Moriah Morgan.  A light dinner will be provided at the panel discussion in 2019 Morrill Hall.

This is an excellent opportunity for our students to learn about the experiences of refugees, and to consider the global resource systems that drive people from their homes and the global resource systems and capitals that may help refugees rebuild their lives.
