Globe 201 Students Complete Silent Auction

June 13

The students of Globe 201 conducted a silent auction on Monday, April 20, 2015, to raise for ‘Establish and Grow’, which supports nutrition education programs in the Kamuli district of Uganda.  Establish and Grow was developed by Iowa State University students and faculty and is housed in the Center for Sustainable Rural Livelihoods. Over three hundred items were offered in the auction, and a total of over $3,000 was bid for those items.

Auction items included a thirty minute Skype call with Dr. MS Swaminathan, the first World Food Prize laureate, ISU sports memorabilia, shirts signed by ISU alum and US astronaut Clayton Anderson, tickets to the Dr. Phil show, signed comic books and graphic novels, art, jewelry, clothing, boxing lessons(!), and many other items.

Globe student Hannah Darr and Globe faculty member Dr. Dorothy Masinde spoke about the importance of Establish and Grow in providing financial support for the nutrition education programs in the Kamuli district of Uganda.

Globe peer mentors Stephen Todey and Thy Tran were also on hand selling Globe t-shirts.  Proceeds from these sales are also donated to Establish and Grow.

Thank you to the Globe 201 students for putting on a great event.  Also, a big thank you to everyone who attended the auction and contributed to Establish and Grow!
