GRS students study abroad in Uganda over spring break

April 9

Some students find themselves on a beach for spring break; others travel home to spend time with their families. Nine Iowa State University students spent their spring break “service-learning” in the Kamuli District of Uganda.

While the service-learning trips are usually held over the summer, this is the second time the program has gone over spring break. The group witnessed the grand opening of the new Kamuli Training Center, which is larger and more sustainable as it utilizes solar power and natural ventilation.

“It tells the community in the Kamuli District that Iowa State University is there to stay,” said Kody Olson, senior in Global Resource Systems (GRS). “It cemented our long-standing commitment to the program.”
