Global Engagement
Dr. Duerfeldt has been engaged with service-learning and school-gardening study
abroad courses for the past six years.  He oriented EARTH Program student interns pre-departure and during their first weeks in the Virgin Islands, while researching the impact of the program on students.  In Uganda, Dr. Duerfeldt assists with mentoring students during lesson planning and presentation, gardening, field visits, and bi-national team projects.  He researches the impact of Iowa State University outreach workshops on youth and ways to improve future workshops.  Dr. Duerfeldt also co-leads the Global Resource Systems first year seminar series, which provides freshmen and sophomore students with the opportunity to travel internationally, observing resource systems first hand and providing context for their further classes.
